Race Notes

Only 44 hours and counting!  Online pre-registration is open until 11:00 p.m. CDT tonight.
There will be coffee and donuts available at registration and cold bottled water post-race at the registration tent/awards ceremony.  Remember that race-day registration is from 7:00-8:30 a.m., and there will be a short riders' meeting at the registration tent at 8:45.  Please note the following:
1. The course is 9.4 km in length and is an open course, so be aware of traffic.
2. Stay to the right of your lane at all times unless passing another rider.
3. This event is an Individual Time Trial, therefore you may not ride closer than 80 feet to a rider in front of you.
4. When passing, be aware of any traffic, stay clear of the rider you are overtaking and do not cross the yellow line (much of the course is divided by a median)
5. The course will be clear by 9:00 a.m.  Warm-up can be continued after 9:00 on Industrial Bypass, which typically has very little traffic and is near the starting line.
6. Please watch the time as you continue warming up and plan on being staged in correct starting order several minutes before your stating time.
7. Remember parking and registration/check-in is at the New Century Field House on the west side of New Century Parkway and is a few hundred meters north of the starting line.
Good Luck!

Course Notes

See the Course Map below.  The Course is about 9.4 km in length and is an out and back course beginning at the south end and traveling northbound.  The turnaround is just south of 151st Street and will be well marked.  A Johnson County Sheriff's Deputy will be monitoring southbound traffic at the turnaround and there will be another volunteer before the turnaround monitoring any oncoming traffic behind you.  The total Course elevation gain is a whopping 85 feet.  The Finish is directly under the Highway 56 overpass.  Remember, the Course is an open course, but traffic is typically light.

Merckx Category

Don't have a TT bike or want to worry about bar extensions or other encumbrances? Neither did The Cannibal! Once again, we are offering a Merckx class for those wanting to race against the clock on their road bike. Merckx categories often result in some controversy, but here is the final word regarding the Merckx category at the Jesse Blancarte TT:

1. Frame is UCI legal for mass start races, and sold/marketed as a road bike
2. Maximum rim depth 36mm
3. No aero bars/bar extensions
4. No aero helmets
5. No skinsuits; must have jersey/shirt separate from bibs/shorts, or worn over your skinsuit

Thus, your recent road frame touted as an "aero design" is OK. And that is the "spirit" of the Merckx class: to allow those of us without a TT bike the opportunity to race against others "on an even playing field." As noted on the flyer, if you race in your Masters/Category race plus the Merckx class, you will use a separate race number. As always, wool clothing, leather shoes, toe clips, downtube shifters and Reynolds 531 frame material will earn respect!
